Information We Collect
We collect only what you choose to provide or what is needed for the App to work:
- Account Info: Name, email address, and password for login and account management.
- Pet Profiles: Details you enter about your pets, including names, breeds, photos, medical history, vaccination records, medications, diet logs, expense records, and uploaded documents (e.g., vet records, insurance, microchip info).
- QR Tag & Scan Data: When someone scans your QR smart tag, we record anonymized scan analytics including time, approximate location, and an optional scan reason (e.g., "Safe With Me," "Possible Lost," "Viewing Info") and a short note if provided. This data is accessible only to the pet's owner.
- Location (optional): If you enable location services, we use your location solely to show nearby vets, pet-friendly places, or to support location-aware features such as missing pet alerts. We do not store precise real-time location continuously.
- Community Content: Forum posts, comments, and profile information you share publicly within the app's community.
- Support & Contact: Messages, attachments, and contact information you submit when you reach out to our support team.
- Device & Usage Data: Basic technical information (device type, OS version, app version, crash reports) collected via Firebase to maintain app stability. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-app tracking.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to operate and improve FurFolio. Specifically:
- Provide and personalize FurFolio features, including pet profiles, health & vaccination tracking, medication reminders, diet & nutrition logging, expense tracking, and AI vet assistant responses.
- Enable QR smart tag functionality and display your pet's public profile to anyone who scans your tag.
- Power missing pet alerts and broadcast limited pet information to the community when you mark a pet as missing.
- Deliver push notifications, scan alerts, missing pet notifications, and essential account or subscription communications.
- Support community interactions including forum posts, blocking, and reporting.
- Provide location-aware features (nearby vets, pet-friendly places) when you opt in.
- Respond to support requests and investigate reported content or conduct.
- Maintain app security, diagnose technical issues, and improve app performance.
The features we currently use your data to support include:
QR Tags & Scan Analytics
FurFolio QR smart tags link to your pet's public profile. When a tag is scanned, we record:
- Scan time – the date and time of the scan.
- Approximate location – derived from the scanner's device (if permitted by their device settings).
- Scan reason – an optional selection by the scanner: "Safe With Me," "Possible Lost," or "Viewing Info."
- Quick note – an optional short message left by the scanner (e.g., "Found near the park").
Scan analytics are visible only to the pet's owner. We use this data solely to help you monitor your pet's safety and activity. You can customize what information is displayed on your pet's public profile and control tag visibility at any time through Tag Management settings in the App.
We do not sell scan data or share it with advertisers.
Missing Pet Alerts
If you mark a pet as missing, FurFolio broadcasts an alert to nearby users and the community. This alert includes limited pet profile information (e.g., pet name, photo, breed, and last known location) to help facilitate recovery.
By activating a missing pet alert, you consent to this limited sharing of your pet's information with other FurFolio users. You can deactivate the alert at any time from within the App, which will stop new notifications from being sent.
Trusted Access (Co-Owners & Sitters)
You may grant other FurFolio users access to your pet's profile as a co-owner or sitter. Trusted users may view or update pet information according to the permission level you assign.
When you grant trusted access, the trusted user can see relevant pet data needed to care for your pet. You are responsible for managing and revoking trusted access. You can remove trusted access at any time from your pet's settings.
Community & Forum
FurFolio includes a community forum where you can post, comment, and interact with other pet owners. Content you post in public forum areas is visible to other FurFolio users. Your display name and profile photo may be associated with your posts.
You can block other users to prevent them from viewing your profile or interacting with you. You can also report content that violates our community guidelines using the in-app Report feature.
We do not sell or share forum content with advertisers. Moderation reviews may access reported content to evaluate policy violations.
What We Don't Do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
- We don't use third-party advertising trackers.
- We don't share your data with advertisers.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't store your full payment details (billing is handled by Apple App Store or Google Play).
- We don't store precise, continuous real-time location data.
Limited Sharing & Third-Party Services
We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We use Firebase (authentication and analytics) and AWS (file storage) strictly to operate FurFolio. These providers are bound by data processing agreements and may not use your data for their own purposes.
- Third-Party Integrations You Use: If you use location-aware features, we use Google Maps APIs. If you follow product links in the App, you may be directed to Amazon or other retailers via affiliate links. Data shared with these services is limited to what is necessary to provide the specific feature.
- Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of FurFolio, its users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: If FurFolio is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified of any such change.
Data Retention
We keep your data only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide FurFolio services. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data unless we are legally required to retain it (e.g., for tax, legal compliance, or fraud prevention purposes).
Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained for analytics and service improvement purposes.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest.
- Secure, access-controlled cloud hosting (AWS, Firebase).
- Authentication protections including secure login and session management.
No system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work diligently to protect your data and will notify you of a breach as required by applicable law.
Your Rights
You can manage your information directly in the App:
- Access or update your account info in the App's settings.
- Manage notifications (push and email) in the App's settings.
- Delete your account and associated data directly from within the App.
- Revoke trusted access for co-owners or sitters at any time from your pet's settings.
- Deactivate missing pet alerts at any time.
- Control QR tag visibility and your pet's public profile via Tag Management settings.
You may also request deletion, export, or correction of your data by emailing support@furfolioapp.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
EU / UK (GDPR): If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have additional rights including the right to access, rectification, erasure ("right to be forgotten"), restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California (CCPA / CPRA): If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your personal information, opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell your data), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Children's Privacy
FurFolio is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you must be 16 or older (or have verifiable parental consent) to use the App.
If we discover that we have collected personal data from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have received information from a child, please contact us at support@furfolioapp.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, our practices, or applicable law. For material changes, we will notify you via in-app notice and/or email. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
Your continued use of FurFolio after a change becomes effective means you accept the updated policy.
